Unerupted

Unerupted refers to a tooth that has not yet emerged through the gum, or is improperly positioned and remains fully or partially covered by the gum tissue. This condition occurs when a tooth fails to erupt, or break through, the gum line at the expected time during a person's dental development.

The eruption of teeth is a natural process that typically begins in infancy and continues into the late teenage years as the primary (baby) teeth are replaced by the permanent (adult) teeth. Each person is born with a full set of tooth buds, or tooth germs, beneath the gums. As a person grows, these tooth buds gradually develop into the full-sized teeth that will eventually erupt through the gums.
